How to configure Secure Cloud Connect

Once you receive your tenant credentials, please follow these steps to add the Secure Cloud Connect repositories to your VBR.

  1. Click “Backup Infrastructure” at bottom left of Veeam console.
  2. Right click on “Service Providers” and select “Add service provider”.
  3. Enter the DNS name provided in your onboarding email and leave the port at 6180.
  4. Check the box “Allow this Veeam Backup & Replication installation to be managed by the service provider”.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Click Add button to add the Credentials you received in the secure email.
  7. Save the credentials and click Apply.
  8. You’ll see your new Secure Cloud Connect repositories on the following screen with their total Capacity, one for mission critical IBR backups and one for non-mission critical backups.
  9. Click Apply and Finish

Once the above is completed, you can create Backup Copy jobs that immediately copy your local backups to Secure Cloud Connect as each backup completes. Directions can be found here on Veeam’s site.

Recommended settings for the Backup Copy jobs:

  • Job: Immediate copy (mirroring)
  • Target: Backup Repository: Select the mission critical IBR bucket for all servers that you want to recover with Cloud IBR and the non-IBR bucket for servers that you do not want included in your automated recovery.
  • Target: Retention Policy: Minimum of 30 days since our Object Storage has 30 day minimum retention. Configure weekly, monthly and yearly as per your requirements.
  • Target, click Advanced button:
    • Maintenance tab:
      • Check box for Perform backup files health check. Leave as default monthly. (This may incur additional charges)
    • Storage tab:
      • Compression level: Auto
      • Ensure that you enable encryption. This is the Encryption Key you will enter into your Cloud IBR portal.
    • RPO Monitor tab:
      • Check When new backup is not copied within 2 days
    • Notifications tab (if you do not already have Global Notifications configured):
      • Check Send e-mail notifications and enter an internal email address
      • Use custom notification settings and check only Notify on warning and error
  • All other settings can be left at the default.

If you already have Copy Jobs sending to another location with all of the above options configured, you can:

  1. Right click on each of existing job and select Clone.
  2. Edit each job and change the “Backup Repository” setting on the “Target” tab to one of your new buckets.

If you are not running local backups, you can configure standard backup jobs that backup directly to Secure Cloud Connect using the directions on Veeam’s site here.
