Cloud IBR Expands Disaster Recovery for MSPs — Scalable, on-demand recovery without idle infrastructure

READ PRESS RELEASE

Unable to migrate some VMs. Destination datastore nfs0 has not enough free space.

Symptom

One or more of your servers fail the migration portion of the Instant Recovery with this error.

Cause

When Veeam performs an Instant Recovery of HyperV machines and Agent Based backups to VMware, it creates thick provisioned disks on the ESXi host. If your server has a 20TB disk but only 5TB of data, Veeam still provisions the full 20TB on ESXi.

Resolution

Increase the Storage requirement for the Cloud Provider in your Cloud IBR account.

When determining how much space you need for your recovery environment:

  1. Make sure to account for the full size of each disk that you are recovering for HyperV/Agent backup backups (VMware backups default to restoring as Thin Provisioned), not the amount of data you are backing up.
  2. Add an additional minimum of 20% storage so that you have free space for growth in your recovery environment.

See this article if you are recovering to PhoenixNAP and require more than 25TB of storage.

NOTE: We have a feature request into Veeam for them to change the default to Thin Provision for IR’s performed via REST API and PowerShell.
